The commercial reverse osmosis membranes work by rejecting dissolved and other materials including monovalent salts. As the reverse osmosis membrane works hard to reject majority if not all dissolved materials, the permeate water (purified water) is left to flow through to the destination. The percentage of feed water that is recovered as purified water is often called the percentage recovery. This percentage recovery can by anything between 50% -80% dependent on the reverse osmosis membrane & reverse osmosis water filter system you use. Even if the percentage recovery is at a low rate, you can simply use a reverse osmosis drain clamp and filter the waste water into a storage tank and use as required.
